Western Red Cedar (Thuja Plicata - Wood of Beauty and Warmth)

The Timber

Western Red Cedar is native to North America. It is one of the most highly prized soft woods of the world. It is naturally beautiful, durable and versatile.

The presence of the Western Red cedar enhances the decor of any contemporary or traditional home, office and public building.

Western Red Cedar in its natural unfinished state has a rich texture, tactile grain combined with a palette of warm, mellow tones ranging from light amber to deep honey brown. It also has a subtle aroma that remains present even after the manufacturing process.

The timber has a straight grain that gives it important properties in venetian blinds. The first is, Western Red Cedar acts as an excellent thermal insulator and greatly assists in keeping rooms cool in the summer and reducing heat loss in winter. Secondly, the porous cellular structure of the cedar gives it superior acoustical properties and the ability to dampen vibrations and noise pollution.

The Western Red Cedar contains natural oils that act as preservatives to help protect the wood from parasitic and natural decay. Properly finished and maintained, Western Red cedar products are long lasting and durable.

Colour Variation

Western Red Cedar is not consistent in colour - during the manufacturing process, great care is taken to match the slats within blinds. However, even then, the colour will vary slightly from slat to slat and blind to blind. The slats are chosen so that they are consistent in shading and colour.

Slat Bowing

All timber products have cell structures that breathe. Timber absorbs and releases moisture depending on the surrounding environment and thus the timber changes structure. Even after the thorough process of coating and treating the cedar to prevent it from bowing, if it does occur, it will be in the first week of installation.

Ultra Violet Resistance

All timber products can potentially 'yellow' from the suns Ultra Violet rays. Cedar blinds are coated with a special UV resistance layer to minimize and reduce 'yellowing' over time.

Cedar blinds are available in 46mm. or 60mm. slat widths, and there is a choice of traditional tapes, classic ladder tapes and cords.

Basswood Venetian Blinds

North American Basswood comes from tree plantations that are specifically grown for timber venetian blinds.

Basswood is a naturally pale wood, and there is less colour variation between slats than the other timber varieties.

Slats are colored in a range of 10 colors and are finished in polyester lacquer. Slats are available in 50 mm. and 63mm. width only.

Motorization is available.

VisionWood Venetian Blinds are very similar to Timber Venetian Blinds, however they are made from artificial polymers instead of natural timber material. They are suitable for all environments, including high humidity areas.

VisionWood products are washable and resist fading, peeling, cracking and warping.

Available in 50mm slat width and in range of whites, off whites and wood-tone finishes.
